The Carlsbad Flower Fields Mother’s Day Festival

The Carlsbad Flower Fields are an absolute no-brainer if your mom loves flowers. If she hasn’t been, she has to go. This 50 acres of extraordinary color is in bloom on a hillside overlooking the Pacific Ocean and offers a special nursery, garden, and gift shop by Armstrong Garden Centers in addition to festivals. The 50 acres of Giant Tecolote Ranunculus flowers at The Flower Fields cascade down the hillside in a spectacular display of color that is sure to take your breath away. The Fields dazzle the eye and are sure to thrill nature-loving moms of all ages. The last day of the Flower Fields seasons happens on Mother’s Day, and a big celebration is planned, which mom might enjoy.
World Fair Trade Day in Del Mar

Saturday, May 9 is World Fair Trade Day, an annual event sponsored by the Word Fair Trade Organization(WFTO) to raise awareness about global trade. Del Mar residents and visitors now have the opportunity to celebrate and learn more about this important day. Free, family-friendly activities will be held throughout the day, honoring both World Fair Trade Day and Mothers’ Day at Fair Trade Décor in the heart of the village.
Activities on Saturday at Fair Trade Décor begin with a Coffee Klatch from 9:00 to 10:00 featuring free samples of fair trade coffee and chocolate from Africa and South America. Throughout the day, free samples of Dr. Bronner’s soaps and fair trade organic lotions will be available.At 11:00 am, Danny Dog will greet the children and perhaps autograph books. From 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., the Del Mar Library will hold a Story Corner. Popular San Diego guitarist/vocalist, Tim Flood, will perform “music from and for the soul.” The activities conclude with cultural movies and popcorn, 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Let mom peek into the gardens of 10 North County yards during this self-guided San Dieguito Art Guild Garden & Studio Tour that offers not only amazing views, but also shopping because local artists will be nestled in each garden showing and selling their wares. Free snacks are available at every stop and most homes are located close to Encinitas.
This is a self-guided, driving tour on Saturday and Sunday, Mother’s Day weekend, May 9 and 10 from 10am to 4pm each day. Tickets are good for both days and homes may be re-visited.
Take your mom or a group of friends on a leisurely tour of the 10 North County gardens where you can peek into an assortment of fascinating artists’ studios and peruse more then 30 unique exhibits of locally made art. Artists from the San Dieguito Art Guild will be positioned in the gardens — showing and selling their paintings, ceramics, glass, gourd art, fiber arts, photography, jewelry, and much more. Many of the homes feature working artists’ studios. Four homes have full, drop-dead, gorgeous, 180 degree ocean views. This event is the major fund-raiser of the year for the San Dieguito Art Guild. Without funds from this tour the Guild would operate at a loss.
Tickets are $20 per person and may be purchased at the Off Track Gallery or atwww.OffTrackGallery.com (available after April 1) or at each home both days of the tour. This is a favorite tour of many San Diegans, many of whom take this tour year after year.
Mother’s Day Brunch at the RB Inn

Hosted in the Aragon Ballroom, the Rancho Bernardo Inn’s Mother’s Day Brunch Buffet features live music, pony rides & a petting zoo, in addition to the delicious world famous brunch cuisine. The $68 per person admission for adults, and $35 for kids, includes Champagne, a breakfast station with omelets, waffles & pancakes, eggs benedict and bacon & sausage. They will laso have a hot food display with items such as tomato bisque, roasted chicken rice pilaf, teriyaki sea bass, braised short ribs, mushroom raviolis , and a cold display with a smoked seafood platter, jumbo shrimp, seared ahi tuna, charcuterie and artisanal cheeses. There will also be a carving station with prime rib and pork loin. For the children there is a children’s buffet with mini pizzas, mac and cheese and pb&j’s. For dessert they are offering sweets including a chocolate fountain and their famous bread pudding among other desserts. If your mother considers herself a foodie, or just loves good food, this event will be a sure-fire hit!
Bernardo Winery Spring Arts and Crafts Fair

The Rancho Bernardo Winery once again will feature its Spring Arts and Crafts Fair on Mother’s Day weekend. Take mom to this charming “village”, and taste, eat, and shop (triangle of perfection?). There’s also live music and kids are welcome.
The Bernardo Winery’s Annual Spring Arts and Crafts Fair is a popular tradition in San Diego! A truly ALL-Artisan fair, where all the works are hand-crafted and sold by the artists and crafters themselves. Over 125 hand-picked vendors from across Southern California, with everything from handmade jewelry, soaps, paintings and sculpture, local honey, clothing, pottery, items for the home and garden and much more! Live music, a food court, free admission, parking and shuttle.
