Julian StarFest at Menghini Winery Aug 13-15

This weekend the Menghini Winery is hosting the Julian StarFest, a three day festival focusing on astronomy. Julian is the perfect location to host a star festival because it is known for it’s clear dark skies and is one of the best locations in Southern California for observing the stars.
The Menghini Winery is a large winery on the outskirts of Julian, off Wynola Road. It has a large grassy area and plenty of parking, which will be necessary this weekend to accommodate the anticipated crowd. The Menghini Winery is also known for hosting the Grape Stomp event Labor Day weekend and is becoming the center for Julian festivals.
This weekend’s festival includes a free public Star Party on Saturday night, astronomy related exhibition areas, guest speakers presenting on astronomy related subjects, a swap meet and a raffle with some great astronomy prizes.
Anyone can enjoy the Julian StarFest by participating in the free public star party on Saturday, August 15, 2015. Arrive in Julian between 7:00 PM and 9:00 PM and you can enter the StarFest grounds (1150 Julian Orchards Ln, Julian, CA 92036) for free. Take a star tour of the heavens using the many telescopes set up in the viewing area. Experts will be on hand to answer questions about what you’re looking at and about the telescopes. Parking is available nearby and organizers suggest you bring a red light flashlight to guide yourself to the observing area. If you don’t have a red light flashlight, red film will be provided to cover a white light flashlight. Please, no white lights in the observing area. If you wish to take part in the drawing at 5:00 PM, you must arrive before 5:00 PM and pay regular admission prices.
Camping, adjacent to the observing site, is available to astronomers on a first come-first served basis.
