A Spotlight on the Community: San Elijo Hills

    San Elijo Hills is a beautiful family oriented community in San Marcos. It is located 6 miles from the Pacific Ocean, on the highest point in North County. Featuring beautiful panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean. From the right spot at the top of Double Peak Park, on a clear day you can see from Tijuana to Oceanside, including the Catalina Islands on the horizon. Many of the homes and developments offer ocean views as well. 
     
    This a master-planned community, developed and designed with almost everything in mind. Once complete it will be home to more than 10,000 residents or 3400 homes. At the heart of the community is a walkable town center, with shopping, dining, state of the art schools, 18 miles of trails, 1100 acres of open space, a 19 acre community park with ball fields and play structures, and a regional park for hiking and horseback riding. 
     
    For a community planned with ease of living in mind for growing families, award winning schools is a necessity.The schools in San Elijo Hills are all within walking distance, granting parents the opportunity to walk their children to and from school. San Elijo is home to 2 of the largest schools in San Marcos Unified School District.
     
    Students start at the San Elijo Elementary School. Offering kindergarten through fifth grade, with 1,225 students currently enrolled, this school is rated 10 out of 10 with an API score of 937 according to Greatschools.com.  The middle school is the San Elijo Middle School. It is also rated 10 out of 10 on Greatschools.com and has an API score of 919. There are currently 1,499 students enrolled. The students who attend elementary and middle school in San Elijo go on to San Marcos High School, located on San Marcos Blvd. This school is not within the community of San Elijo but is award winning. In 2005, San Marcos was ranked the 419th best high school in the nation by Newsweek magazine. It is rated 9 out 10 and has an API score of 857, with 2,242 students enrolled. 
     
    The community also features some of the most popular hiking and biking trails in San Diego County. A recent article from the Union Tribune that listed the top 10 best hiking places in San Diego included Double Peak Trail. This 5 mile trek rewards hikers at the top of the 1,644-foot summit, with a spectacular 360-degree view of the North County. There is also a family friendly park at the top of the summit, Double Peak Park. This park features a 150-seat concrete, terraced amphitheatre for interpretive ranger talks, a group picnic shelter, individual picnic tables, an adventure play area, and a resident park ranger.
     
    Another park in the San Elijo community is the San Elijo Hills Park. San Elijo Hills Park includes a soccer field, two baseball diamonds, picnic/barbecue areas, a children’s water “sprayground”, an enclosed dog park, jogging paths, and a plaza for large events. The park’s Community Center, operated by the city of San Marcos, has facilities for classes, parties and special events.
     
    Residents gather for neighborhood block parties, wine tastings and playgroups as well as community-sponsored events and programs. More than 2000 residents come out for the Concert in the Square and Movies in the Park. As well as seasonal events such as 4th of July Parade, Concerts in the Square, Oktoberfest, Easter Egg Hunt and a Holiday Tree Lighting.
