A Spotlight on the Community: La Costa

    La Costa is a community in the foothills of Carlsbad, well known for it’s luxurious resorts, world famous golf courses and unmatched golf industry. La Costa is the second main tourist area of Carlsbad, after Legoland.  Further inland from the ocean, La Costa is connected by large streets meandering up and down the hills and canyons. Tennis and golf is very popular in this area.La Costa’s development began in 1965, when Ed Roston and a partner of the Desert Inn hotel in Las Vegas purchased 3,500 acres of the scenic area. A golf course and 90-room Inn was developed.  Property was developed around the resort, now known as La Costa.  The La Costa community now includes estates, condos, shopping centers, upscale boutiques and fine dining restaurants.

    One of the most recognizable landmarks of La Costa is the La Costa Resort and Spa, now known as the Omni La Costa Resort and Spa. La Costa Resort and Spa began in 1965 and has drawn the rich and famous, seeking relaxation and privacy for 5 decades. The spa at this resort was named the #1 wellness spa in the country by Spa Magazine. The world famous Chopra Center, founded by renowned holistic physician Deepak Chopra, M.D, blends the healing tradition of the Far East with Western medicinal techniques. The Omni La Costa Resort and Spa is also the host of the Southern California Tennis Open. A sportsman’s dream destination, in addition to tennis they also offer 2 championship golf courses. The La Costa area of Carlsbad is also golf industry central, with national headquarters for many of the top golf brands including Taylormade and Callaway.

    La Costa has many up and coming restaurants and shopping areas. The La Costa Town Center on Rancho Santa Fe Road features many casual restaurants such as Noodles & Co and Chipotle, as well as the high end pizza eatery, Crust. Crust is an upscale neighborhood pizzeria that serves up hand-crafted artisan New York style pizza with a modern touch.  Famous for it’s fine dining take on the classic pizza, The Arden Pizza has thin sliced filet mignon, gorgonzola-mozzarella cheese, portabella mushrooms, caramelized balsamic onions and parsley.
    Another delicious La Costa restaurant is the Blue Fire Grill. Part of the La Costa Resort, the restaurant has an exceptional atmosphere and it’s focus on ingredients harvested from the surrounding area means diners literally taste the beauty of Carlsbad.

    The type of housing in La Costa is diverse, spanning generations of architectural eras, from the 70’s to current.  From estate homes to golf-course condos, La Costa in Carlsbad has something for everyone. The average home price in La Costa is over a million dollars. La Costa has many high end developments, including La Costa Oaks, La Costa Valley, La Costa Greens, Arterro, La Costa Ridge, Aviara, La Costa Alta, La Costa Cays, La Costa Downs, La Costa Estates, La Costa Fairview, La Costa Heights, La Costa Hills, La Costa Knolls, La Costa Seashore, La Costa Vista, Olde La Costa, Rancho Ponderosa, and Santa Fe Ridge.
